Footage from Canmore Kananaskis just one week after the Cougar Creek Flood. Alberta's Backyard is back open! As of Wednesday June 26th, the Trans Canada Highway, Canada's coast-to-coast national highway, re-opened after being destroyed by flooding just 6 days earlier. In what was estimated to take 4 weeks to fix, repair crews worked around the clock to get this important piece of national infrastructure open in just 5 days. Alberta Strong!
The open to the CBC Alberta News with Bob Chelmick in Edmonton and Brenda Finlay in Calgary. Both the 6 and 11 newscasts were co-produced and co-anchored from both cities. This format was hammered out after massive budget cuts to the CBC in 1991 shut down CBC's Calgary newscasts. It lasted a couple of years before the CBC returned a local newscast to both markets, but not after sustaining a huge hit in ratings -- something the CBC has never recovered from in these markets.

Farms and ranches across the province opened their gates for the first-ever Alberta Open Farm Days on August 24 and 25, 2013. Albertans came out to meet their rural neighbours to hear stories, see demonstrations, learn more about the farmers who grow their food and see what life is like on a farm. As well, some of Alberta's most talented chefs and rural communities hosted a memorable series of culinary events around the province using Alberta farm products. Most beautiful place in Canada is hands down Lake Louise in Alberta with its azure blue waters and giant glaciers. I went for a 11 hours hike through rough terrain, snow, ice and steep climbs covering 17.3 kilometers. My Survival Guide can be found on my blog: http://www.reformatt.com/survival-guide-lake-louise I was lucky not running into any flesh hungry bears during my solo hike on the way back down. It was a huge mistake not bringing bear spray. You need a lot of stamina if you want to include the Abbot Pass Viewpoint, the Beehive and Lake Agnus in a one-day hike but trust me, it will be worth every drop of sweat! Together with my friends from Holland we spent an entire day at this mesmerizing place, and fortunately it being one of the best days of the year. Early June is highly re...

Considering Banff National Park is one of the world's most visited, it might seem obvious that most tourists would skip right past the former coal-mining town of Canmore, located right outside the park. But this is not the case. Ever since the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary, of which Nordic events were held around Canmore, the town has been maintaining a name for itself as an individual destination. Beyond being a place where Olympians still train, Canmore offers travelers opportunities for winter recreation. And although there is plenty to do outside around Canmore year round, winter is my favorite season to visit. Not only does it come with fewer crowds, seeing snow covered Rockies in all their glory is breathtaking. In this video, we will show you some of the top winter experiences yo...
